Thoughts on the Health Care Problem

A new health reform bill was passed, but as everyone knows, it didn't go far enough. Big health insurers blocked any real reform and an inadequate compromise was passed. I suggest a new perspective on the issue. Only looking at it in a different way will enable any real change to take place - eventually.

The bad boys on the playground. Remember them? They tricked you into giving them your money, promising to pay you back, but they never did, and when you demanded it back they laughed at you and left you crying. Those bullies grow up to be the same way in the adult world. They bully their way into positions of power and join together with other bullies to hoodwink the innocence of the general public into giving them their money. It’s easy for them because now they have the money to pay people to join them and reap part of the loot. They use propaganda, deception and outright, though hidden, threats to convince the masses to continue trusting them with their money.

It is obvious that the forces trying to disrupt health care reform are much too powerful and determined to counteract by any efforts we, the people, can make with our letters, calls, votes, or the president’s outspoken refutations. Yet something must be done!

I propose an alternative movement so profound and so huge that it will undercut those selfish powers. It would be like a grassroots movement involving doctors and other medical personnel who believe in justice and fairness joining together to form an alternative cooperative insurance plan. I think of the model of the banking plan that gives small loans to poor people in third world countries, to help them start businesses.

This is only a suggestion. I am not able to work out the whole plan. Hopefully someone who is will help to design a workable plan.

If all of those groups such as AARP, and even members of the AMA, those who have supported President Obama’s plan, were to join together to simply by-pass the government and the insurance companies, something new might come about. It would be similar to a boycott. It can be spread through the internet, something like MoveOn.org. Participating medical people would sign on to this plan and make themselves available to the public.
